Gau Seva
The cow is a symbol of wealth, strength, abundance, and selfless giving. In Indian culture, the cow is treated with utmost sanctity because it is seen as a life nourisher. Hence, it is considered one of the greatest offerings.
The cows which are given to Tiruvannamalai Lord Shiva are cared for at the shiva’s Gaushala (cow shed), and their milk is used for sacred offerings and annadanam.
A sacred expression of gratitude through Tiruvannamalai Lord Shiva, one can either give a cow alone, or a cow and a calf is beneficial for the overall wellbeing of you and your family.
At Tiruvannamalai Adheenam Math, we believe in the sanctity of cows, revered as Gau Mata in Hinduism. Our Gau Seva initiatives are designed to provide care, nourishment, and reverence to these sacred animals. Gau Seva – A Sacred Offering That Removes Sins
Along with Annadanam, we will also perform Gau Seva by feeding hundreds of cows in our Gaushala.
The scriptures glorify Gau Seva as one of the highest acts of Dharma. Serving and feeding cows is believed to:
- Purify accumulated sins
- Please all Deities
- Bring health, prosperity, and protection
- Increase the merit earned through your charitable offering.
By participating in both Annadanam and Gau Seva, you perform two of the most sacred acts of charity on this highly auspicious Amavasya.

The following offerings are available for you and your family:
- Cow: ₹50,000
- Cow and Calf: ₹75,000
You can offer Gau Seva in person on a date of your choosing and attend the Gau Pooja at Tiruvannamalai Lord Shiva if you wish.
For those who are unable to personally come and make the offering, devotees can give the names and nakshatras (birth stars) of up to four family members, which will be written on a palm leaf and placed at Tiruvannamalai Lord Shiva’s feet for blessings. The offering will be made on their behalf and the prasadam can be sent upon request (within India).
